Youth Development Institute 11/16

On Wednesday, November 16, The College of New Jersey will host over 300 middle school students for the sixth-annual Youth Development Institute (YDI). Sponsored by the Bonner Center, YDI is a chance for TCNJ students and Bonner Scholars to connect with 6th through 8th graders from Hedgepeth/Williams Middle School in Trenton.

Over the course of the day, which begins at 9:30 AM until 2:00 PM, the H/W students, along with 100 TCNJ students, will enjoy a variety of activities, including a presentation and performance by the Bonner band in Kendall Main Stage Theatre. The students will also go on campus tours, have lunch and participate in a variety of workshops created and run by the TCNJ volunteers from four diverse Freshmen Seminar Program (FSP) classes.

The four FSP classes hosting workshops are To See a World in a Grain of Sand: Reading and Writing the Short Story, Exploring Amish Culture, Rock ā€˜Nā€™ Roll in Post-Mao China and the Digital Domain. The workshops will pertain specifically to the content of these classes, such as the students making and playing their own video games, rock ā€˜nā€™ roll exploration and history and games to explore Amish culture. Following the workshops, the students will have the chance to reflect on their experiences and the outcome of YDI.
